Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, also called Hyderabad International Airport, is located near Shamshabad. The airport is on 5,500 acres of land. This was named after the Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. When it opened on March 23, 2008, it quickly replaced Begumpet Airport as Hyderabad's main airport.
